As First Nations grow in financial complexity, good governance and accountability principles are essential for success. Learn how to establish good governance systems that are accountable to First Nations community members.
First Nations Community Strategic Planning:
This workshop will feature a step by step approach to community planning that includes establishing a vision, short and long term business planning and performance measurement. Included in this training will be a budgeting component to ensure funding is in place to achieve goals and objectives.
Essentials of First Nations Financial Management:
This workshop is designed for band councilors and managers to better understand financial management principles and practices. This workshop will focus on subjects such as reading financial statements, cash flow management and the accounting cycle.
First Nations Audit and Reporting:
This workshop provide an overview of the audit process, help you prepare for a successful review and how to select an auditor. Through close attention to the audit process, learn how this will save money in audit fees.
First Nations Financial Reporting:
With the introduction of new accounting rules on tangible capital asset reporting, all First Nations must now comply and report on this subject. This information will help you understand how to develop a plan for accurate recording and reporting.
*International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS):
Starting in 2011 (with restatement of the comparative year), the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants announced its intent to replace Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This new accounting standard will apply to First Nations government business enterprises and possible other organizations controlled by First Nations. Deloitte and Touche will provide a workshop that will include an overview of how IFRS applies and outline IFRS standards most relevant to First Nations entities.
