First Nations Strategic Planning & Community Development

Workshop goals & topics

Strategic planning underpins successful First Nations community development, self-sufficiency and prosperity.

AFOA BC has developed a strategic planning workshop to foster community development among First Nations. The two-day program defines strategic planning terminology, explains how to engage people in the community, and uses a case study to help First Nations develop and implement a strategic plan focused on health, economic development and/or housing. Participants will learn about:

·      Creating a strategic plan – Find out how to develop your strategic vision, directions, goals and action plan—using a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) to assess your community/organization—and engage community stakeholders in the process

·      Evaluating progress – Discover how to identify key performance indicators, track and measure progress, and report back on developments to stakeholders

·      Modifying the strategic plan – Learn how to update your strategic plan, based on findings from the evaluation process

·      Identifying resources – Determine the resources required to make your strategic plan a reality, including funding for capacity building, the planning process and implementation

Who should attend?

·      First Nations leaders

·      First Nations financial managers

·      First Nations Band administrators

·      First Nations managers and employees
