Workshop goals & topics

Robust financial reporting and fiscal management support economic development and wealth creation in First Nations communities.

AFOA BC has developed a workshop to familiarize First Nations leaders and staff with the auditing processand financial reporting requirements. The two-day program covers annual financial planning cycles and the latest information on preparing for First Nations audits. Participants will learn about:

·       Financial reporting responsibilities – Find out about interim, internal and external reporting requirements, what to include in reporting binders, and an overview of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada’s (AANDC) year-end reporting requirements

·       Setting up systems – Review generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)—the standards, conventions and rules accountants use to prepare financial statements—and how to set up accounting systems to make reporting easier

·       Audit process – Learn 10 steps to improve the audit process and lower the audit cost, by using the most effective, efficient methods to prepare successful financial statements, and knowing what to expect when the auditor visits
