About this Event

In this interactive one-day workshop, participants will learn how to organize for an audit, find and select the right auditor, manage the audit process, and learn the role and expectations of the Funding Services Officer. Participants will have the chance to share smart practices and ideas on how to create an audit plan that will work for them.

This event is co-hosted by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) & Aboriginal Financial Officers Association Of BC (AFOA BC).

AGENDA & TOPICS:

*Register to attend morning or afternoon or full day

PART 1 – Audit Preparation 101

8:30 am – Registration for morning session

9:00 am to 12:30 pm – Interactive session with group case studies

  • Preparing for the audit – setting up accounting systems
  • Crafting your audit plan
  • Structuring the financial reporting for
  • Minimizing risk, errors and financial management problems

PART 2 – Audit Updates – Panel & Questions with Indigenous Services Canada & Other Agencies

12:30 pm – Registrations – sign in for afternoon session

1:30 to 3:30 pm – Government & other panel with breakout question groups

  • Updates and changes in Indigenous Services Canada and other agency audits – an interactive panel session followed by agency stations where participants can ask the agencies questions

SPECIAL – Auditors Only Meetings

11:00 am to 12:30 pm – Auditors meeting with ISC to ask questions on auditing

ATTENDANCE / ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS

  1. BC First Nations – Bands, Tribal Council, Band owned entities, Indigenous non-profit organizations
  2. Auditors of BC First Nations

*Registrants DO NOT have to be an AFOA BC member to attend but must represent a BC First Nation or Indigenous organization or their auditor

LEARNING OBJECTIVES / OUTCOME

At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the steps to preparing for an audit throughout the year
  • Outline an audit plan
  • Define what a qualified audit is and its value
  • Explain what an Auditor does
  • Describe what to look for in an Auditor
  • Articulate ISC and other agency audit requirements
